January 2019 - Redbreast Whiskey Tasting

The Waterford Whiskey Society held our inaugural whiskey tasting on Tuesday 29th January at Revolution Bar in Waterford City. We were delighted to have in attendance some of the distillers and blenders from our very own Waterford Distillery, with Ned, their head distiller explaining the theory behind the whiskey terroir project and their exciting new releases to come in the next year. We were also honored to have Serghios Florides, the author of the Irish Whiskey Magazine in attendance who very generously brought the latest edition of the magazine for all those at the event. Our first tasting event started on a high note with the Redbreast Range with Ger Garland taking the us through the wonderful tasting notes of the Redbreast 12 years old, 15 years old, Lustau, 21 years old and 12 year old Cask Strength. He also took us on a trip down memory lane from the early beginnings of the Jameson distillery and how it moved from Dublin to Cork. All those at the tasting event voted on their favorite whiskey of the night with the Redbreast 21 year old winning and the Redbreast 12 year old coming a very close second. To accompany the tasting, each one received a box full of the tasting notes of the Redbreast whiskey to eat such as Brazil nuts,  prunes, coffee beans, dark chocolate, cinnamon covered raisins and candied ginger.  The night was a huge success and we look forward to the many events to follow in the upcoming year and seeing all you whiskey enthusiasts there.
